Update - 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates TTM Success

Date sent: 5/26/09
Date returned: 6/2/09

This is my thirteenth return from the 1960 Pirates. This is also another one that came back in one week or less. I actually just went back and checked the numbers, ten of the fourteen have been returned in one week or less. That's amazing.

This return is from Bob Oldis. He played in the majors from 1953-1955 and 1960-1963. He was a backup catcher that played for the Washington Senators, Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies. He amassed only 236 at-bats over his career, batting .224. He still works as a scout for the Florida Marlins.

Well, There are only five more living members of the 1960 Pirates that I need. Four of those requests have been sent. The other one, Joe Christopher, is not worth sending as he doesn't sign TTM. There's going to be a 1960 Pirates reunion in Pittsburgh next year so I'll catch him then.

  1. Nice job. You've been very fortunate in your return times.

  2. The Florida Marlins are a young team, but filled with history. Already having won two World Series, these fish have set the precedent for other young teams to follow. Nonetheless, this is a team that has been built, dismantled, and rebuilt again. This makes it hard to keep up with who’s on first, and all the other bases. Only those who truly know MLB history may know the history of the Florida Marlins . Just read about them here:

  3. do you have any details on the '60 team reunion in 2010?

I attended the Southern Conference HOF and got three baseballs autographed by Dick Groat.

In a book on the 7th game of '60 W.S. there is a story about a yearly gathering of a few '60 Pirates and fans to listen to the 7th game at the site of old Forbes Field. I plan to go this year (Oct. 13) and have any '60 players sign a couple of baseballs.

I would imagine all that can attend on Oct. 13 in 2010 will be there.

    thanks, b.b. branton

  5. I emailed J. Paul Sports Promotions looking for info on Joe Christopher signings since I knew they've had him at past signings. Here is their reply: "Joe will be invited to the 1960 Pirate reunion May 21-23, 2010 in Pittsburgh"
